BIOGRAPHY

    Héctor Herrera, was born in Mexico City (1975).

 

   He studied Visual Arts at the National Autonomous University of Mexico, within the PAEA program at the Antigua Academia de San Carlos; he received a scholarship from the Polytechnic University of Valencia to finish his professional studies.

 

   He has obtained the Youth Research Scholarship from UNAM (1995-1998). He obtained the National Prize for Young Art, awarded by Inma, in 2002. He has obtained honorable mentions in the First National Biennial of Yucatan (2002), in the Fourth National Contest of Plastic Arts, Libertad Gallery (2002), in the First Rafael Cauduro Painting Biennial, Tijuana (2006), Annual MexAm / VSC Artist fellowship Award, Vermont, USA. (2003, 2006). First Prize at the Latin American Art Festival, San Diego CA. (2015). Honorable Mention at the XXI Biennial of Baja California. (2019)

 

   He has also carried out artistic residencies in Bahía-Brasil (2010), Reunion Island at the Biennial of ADCNI, France (2009), in Santiago de Chile (2001, 2007), Paradores Nacionales, Madrid (1998). He has been selected in the biennials, XXI Bienal Plástica de Baja California (2017,2019), Latin American Art Festival, San Diego CA (2015), XV Bienal de Artes Visuales del Noroeste. (2015), National Biennial of Yucatán (2009, 2004, 2002), X Diego Rivera Drawing Biennial, Guanajuato, Mexico (2002), in the first Rafael Cauduro biennial, Compostela, Spain (2005), II International Drawing Biennial, Joseph Amat, Catalonia, Spain (2003).

 

   He has exhibited his work individually in Mexico, as well as in the United States, Chile, Spain, Brazil and France. He currently resides in Ensenada Baja California, where he coordinates the Center for Residencies and Artistic Research (CRIA).
